Loving Red is where the series found its heart. A red-roofed farmhouse sits warm in the afternoon light, framed by dark trees and a road that wanders in from the fields, the whole scene lit with those electric edges of pink and red that make Sandy's work hum.

Painted in September of 2020, it emerged from a season of experiments — graphic, dramatic, black and white — and landed somewhere unmistakably joyful.

There's a playfulness here that reaches back to Sandy's years as a writer for young readers: fun, innocent, inviting, the visual equivalent of a story told with a grin.

It struck a chord immediately, and the series it sparked has been finding homes almost faster than he can paint them. This is the one that started it — the beginning of Sandy at his most free.
