Awakened by Light
There’s a quiet pull before dawn, one I’ve followed across continents and coastlines. Whether I’m waking in Oregon or overseas, I instinctively know where the sun will rise with dramatic appeal. Call it intuition, call it a compass etched in my bones, but long before the world stirs, I’m chasing my favorite subject - first light.

From the cliffs of New Zealand to the plains of Kenya, to the stillness of Japan, I rise before the sun not for routine, but reverence. Each journey is a chance to witness Earth’s theater of light … to bring home a moment that once lived only in the hush before daybreak. To see it is never enough for me, my favorite captures are the ones seen by so few, yet must be shared.

These limited edition works are more than photographs. They are invitations to pause, to breathe, to reconnect with wonder. Collected by those who understand that art is not decoration, but a daily dose of inspiration. May these complete your spaces as they do mine in both home and office.

I am an Oregon native - Born in Stayton, raised in Pendleton and I joke that I didn’t begin to grow up until I moved to Portland at age 21. A move I made with one intent - to sell my scenic photographs.

I received bad advice in my teens to “Never turn your hobby into a career ... then you’ll have to do it and hate it.” Sadly I believed that nonsense until I was 31, when I cashed in my Fred Meyer 401k to open a portrait studio in ‘96 called Prints Charming Photography (now Studio B Photography www.StudioBpdx.com) I reasoned that if my focus was on people, my hobby would be safe.

Serendipity drove the perfect clients my way. Some hired me to shoot headshots & events all over the world - most notably to destinations on my Bucket List. Kenya, Australia, Japan, The Bahamas and most rewarding - New Zealand, where I found my amazing wife Cathy and our future seasonal home.

I booked an extra week after each of those gigs so that I could explore with the camera gear that outweighed my clothes. Welcome to my 36 yr. young DREAM.

This collection is my inaugural display of what I have kept at bay for long enough. 2020 blessed me with this call to action...
